Reliance Jio have made their first foray into the world of Esports with the launch of the JioMart Gameathon, their first online gaming tournament! The tournament will be played out on the 30th of October, continuing till 1st November. The company has partnered with Garena Free Fire to increase its reach in the gaming world. With Free Fire being one of PUBG Mobile’s biggest competitors, this tournament may hopefully fill the gap in the industry left with the recent PUBG Mobile ban. According to a support page created for the tournament, the Gameathon is going to be live streamed on Youtube as well as JioTV. Also, the tournament is going to be an only-mobile tournament with tablets, triggers, emulators etc. not allowed.
A total of 576 teams of four members will be competing to qualify for the first round of the competition. Out of which 96 teams will go for quarterfinals, 24 teams in semi-finals and 12 teams in the grand finale. The JioMart Gameathon boasts a prize pool of INR 25,000 with the winning team taking home INR 16,000 followed by INR 12,000 for the runner-up! The MVP (Most Valuable Player) will also receive INR 10,000! The winning prizes will be credited to the players’ JioMart wallets. Although the prize pool is very small considering the amount of prize pool Esports tournaments have nowadays, the tournament itself can be a really big step forward for the Esports industry in India!
The JioMart Gameathon page is live on JioGames and interested players can register for it
