The event is set to take place on March 6, 2021 at a still to be determined venue. The UFC is still hoping that the pandemic will slow down in the coming months as they aim to finally bring back the fans to the fights. It’s uncertain if that happen in early March but given the impressive fight lineup of this event, the UFC would most certainly want fans to be a part of this big event.
UFC 259 will air via Pay per view following a prelims undercard that will be shown live via ESPN and ESPN+.

This will be Yan’s first title defense since winning the belt with a masterful 5th round TKO win over former champion Jose Aldo at UFC 251 last July. This bout was supposed to take place at UFC 256 last December 12th but the champion pulled out of the fight due to personal reasons.
Yan heads to this match on the strength of a 10-fight winning streak, including a 7-0 UFC record. He is the 10th best pound for pound fighter in the UFC and a former Absolute Championship Berkut bantamweight champion. The 27-year old Russian has a record of 15-1 with 7 knockouts and one win via submission.
On the other hand, this will mark the first ever title shot for Sterling. The 31-year old from Uniondale in New York is the UFC’s number 1 ranked bantamweight contender and the former Cage Fury Fighting Championships bantamweight champion. Master Funk defeated Cory Sandhagen in a bantamweight title eliminator last June 6, 2020 at UFC 250. Sterling has won five bouts in a row after losing to Marlon Moraes in 2017.

With the addition of the UFC men’s bantamweight title bout to the event, UFC 259 will now have three title fights. In the main event of course is UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya trying to become a two-division champion as he challenges Jan Blachowicz for the UFC light heavyweight title. The Last Stylebender is currently a -265 betting favorite against the 205-pound champion who is listed at +225 at BetOnline as of 1/8/21.
The second title fight is the women’s featherweight championship between double-champion Amanda Nunes against Megan Anderson. The Lioness heads to her second featherweight title defense as a massive -1000 betting favorite with Anderson coming back at +700.
Meanwhile, bantamweight champion Yan is currently pegged at -135 at SportsBetting.ag while challenger Sterling is listed as a +115 underdog in the same online sportsbook. As the lines suggest, the bantamweight title fight is going to be a close contest and it could end up as the most competitive title fight at UFC 259.
