There are too many big online events right now to write about every winner, but a back-to-back champion is always worthy of a mention.

In October we wrote about Padraig ‘Smidge’ O’Neill who won the last Unibet Open Main Event for €79,998.13 after qualifying in a €50 satellite.

Well, he did it again. Yesterday evening he won the 4th €1,100 Unibet Open Main Event to take place online for €52,622.

He bested a field of 212 players and a final table that included Unibet sponsored Chip Race host David Lappin (who came 4th for €20,000) on his way to the historic victory. He also kept another back-to-back accolade going as now all four online legs of the Unibet Open have been won by people living in Ireland (see the tweet below).

Lappin paid tribute to O’Neill after the finale:

I’m really happy with how the final day went overall. I had a gross spot where I folded a full house, got really lucky when my pocket 2s spiked the turn all-in versus AJ and Tens, built a decent stack early on the final table but then went really card dead and was forced into ladder-mode.

4th place and €20,000 is a nice Christmas Bonus for me but the man of the moment is Padraig O’Neill who has pulled off a momentous achievement here. Going back to back is a gargantuan accomplishment. The ‘Mr. Get It Quietly’ of the Irish poker scene is making an awful lot of noise this year!

That is the final Unibet online festival of 2020 but stay tuned as in 2021 they are going to kick the year of with a series dedicated to PKO tournaments.

Will you play the next Unibet Open Series? Let us know in the comments:
