Esports and eSports betting in general received a huge boost when the coronavirus shutdown most traditional sports and sporting events. It is currently showing its staying power in recent competitions. A post on ESPN highlighted two perfect examples of the overall popularity of eSports betting competitions.

eSports Call of Duty Playoffs Postseason Competitions Light Things Up for Fans

The first was the recent action in the Call of Duty playoffs. The overall excitement was bolstered by just how close the matches were. In Round 11 on Arklov Peak, the action was intense.

The Chicago Huntsmen did an excellent job holding off OpTic Gaming from advancing. This bitter rivalry was renewed in grand fashion. The actual outcome remained in doubt the entire match. That was just one of the highlights in the recent postseason competition.

The London Royal Ravens also caught the attention of Call of Duty fans.

Going all the way back to January of this year, this team made its debut at Launch Weekend. Ahead of the coronavirus, this was a live event in Minneapolis.

There was some initial skepticism that the hype was to high. The team was described with the term, “Pseudo-European Super Team.” This implied that their overall talent was being called into question.

Matthew “Skrapz” Marshall was a legitimate player. However, his brother Bradley “Wuskin” Marshall was tagged as being too slow. Thomas “Dylan” Henderson was touted for his previous achievement playing Reciprocity. Yet, he was unproven on the new version. This called the London Royal Ravens into suspect before competition even began.

During the Launch Weekend, the team knocked off the New York Subliners in an upset. It went on to lose to the Paris Legion. This suddenly made this team interesting with esports insiders.

As the season wore on, a few bad losses cut into that interest. Sometimes they got into their own way. Even at their best, they could not produce an important tournament victory. They were often described as the most unluckiest team in the league.

This made the opening rounds of the playoff all the more interesting. The turnaround started when the Royal Ravens beat the Toronto Ultra in the loser’s bracket. The win came playing Domination, which was by far their worst game mode.

London will now face the Huntsmen in the next round as a very dangerous team. From a betting standpoint there will definitely be some value in the team’s odds as an underdog.

In other esports postseason action, the Fnatic came into the LEC ranked fourth out of 10 teams. Futhermore, this is the League of Legends European Championship. The rival G2 Esports were second on the list behind Rogue. The third team on the LEC board was Mad Lions.

Rogue won both regular season matches against Fnatic. The end result for the latter team was an even 9-9 record. This was its worst effort in three years. This same matchup was set for Round 1 when Rogue actually chose Fnatic.

Turning the tide, Fnatic won that match 3-0 to advance. Interestingly enough it will now face G2 as its biggest League of Legends’ rival.
