Shoppers will soon find new $25 and $50 denomination cards among the options for funding DraftKings Sportsbook and/or casino accounts. It’s crucial that they use these responsibly, however.
Details on DraftKings gift cards
This isn’t the first time a gambling company has partnered with a finance company to accept physical prepaid cards as a form of payment. DraftKings itself is one of several gambling companies active in NJ that accepts the Game On Card, for example.
This is the first time that such cards will bear the trademarks of an online gambling company. The cards are only available on a retail basis, not electronic, and the following retailers plan to offer them:
- Dollar General
Right now, the $25 and $50 denominations are the only two available. For those who want to engage with DraftKings’ online products but lack access to other electronic funding channels, this provides an option.
“Just in time for the upcoming holiday season, we are proud to work with InComm Payments to get DraftKings gift cards on the shelves at several popular retailers,” said Matt Kalish, Co-Founder and President of DraftKings North America. “We are thrilled to provide our customers with another way to fund their accounts and engage with our real money products through this first-of-its-kind offering.”
It also provides the same individuals with a way to set limits for their gambling. That’s a proven strategy when it comes to responsible gaming.
Another tool for responsible gaming
DraftKings already offers multiple tools for customers through its apps and websites that help them gamble responsibly. These include customizable deposit limits and easy access to information about how to find free assistance for people with compulsive gambling issues.
These cards expand upon those initiatives in another way for DraftKings customers. They essentially come with a built-in limit. For example, a bettor in New Jersey could buy her/himself one $50 card and determine that once he/she has exhausted the value of that, he/she won’t buy another until a set amount of time has passed.
By that same measure, people who plan to buy these cards as gifts should be mindful of who they gift them to. Because they bear the DraftKings brand, they might act as a “trigger” for those with compulsive gambling issues.
When done responsibly, gambling online can be exciting. These gift cards provide another way for people in NJ to get in on the fun.
