Ali Abdelaziz Comments on Khabib vs. McGregor 2

Ali Abdelaziz Khabib Nurmagomedov Conor McGregor

  • Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from MMA in October of 2020.
  • UFC Dana White continues to claim he Khabib will fight again in the future.
  • It now appears we could see Khabib vs. McGregor 2 taking place sometime in 2021.

After his most recent victory over Justin Gaethje this past October, undefeated champion Khabib Nurmagomedov retired from the sport of MMA. Since that time, rumors have been swirling that he’ll be making a comeback sometime in 2021. Unfortunately, manager Ali Abdelaziz claims he’s not interested in seeing Khabib vs. McGregor 2.

The first fight between these men was the biggest in mixed martial arts history. Fans have been calling for a rematch ever since. Today, we’ll talk about what could lead to this bout coming together in 2021.

Here’s what we know!

Khabib Nurmagomedov is Set to Meet With Dana White This Month

In January of 2012, Khabib Nurmagomedov made his debut in the UFC. Fast-forward eight years, and Khabib is one of the most popular combat sports athletes on the planet. He went undefeated in the UFC and finally retired from the sport with an undefeated 29-0 record.

This retirement seemed a little premature. Khabib Nurmagomedov is still just 32 years old. In MMA, that’s still fairly young. He likely still has years of fighting at the highest level in him if he chose to continue.

Not long ago, Khabib announced that he will be meeting with UFC President Dana White sometime this month in Abu Dhabi. White is trying hard to goad Khabib into competing again. It seems he still has some big plans for the Dagestani champion.

No one knows exactly what Dana White is proposing. There have been rumors circulating that the UFC is interested in booking a mega-fight between Khabib and George St. Pierre. Nothing has been confirmed, though.

Some also feel that the UFC wants to book a rematch between Khabib and former two-division champion, Conor McGregor. This is a serious money maker for the UFC. It seems likely that this rematch would end up being even bigger than the first bout between these fighters back in October of 2018.

Khabib has been extremely hesitant to commit to another fight with Conor. The first fight between these men got very personal. It seems his manager isn’t too fond of the idea, either.

Here’s What Ali Abdelaziz Has to Say About Khabib vs. McGregor 2

As we said earlier, Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the most popular combat sports athletes alive. Every single time he competes, it draws in a huge number of viewers. When matched up with a fellow Pay-Per-View draw like Conor McGregor, it creates something truly special.

It’s no surprise that officials within the UFC want to see this happen. Not everyone is excited about the prospect, though. This week, renowned manager Ali Abdelaziz spoke about the possibility of this fight coming together to the media this week.

“(Would) beating Conor McGregor mean anything? I don’t know,” Ali said to TMZ. “But I think it would mean a lot for the fans, and I think financially, it’s a huge fight. But we know Khabib. It’s hard to persuade him financially. But my man Dana White and Khabib, they’re going to meet. I think they’re going to meet in Abu Dhabi, and after that, Khabib’s going to come to Vegas and they’re going to go to dinner in Vegas, and we’re going to figure it out. Like I said, this is big boys’ business. I’m going to let them do what they do, and I’ll be a fan… We don’t really care about him.”

It’s not much of a surprise that Abdelaziz isn’t too excited about this matchup. He was drug into the trash-talking between these men in the lead-up to fight night. He might prefer to avoid the personal attacks from Conor McGregor and could push Khabib to face off against GSP sometime later this year.

The fight game is mostly about money, and there is no bigger fight than Khabib vs. McGregor 2. Just about everyone wants to see these men compete again. Hopefully, Dana White makes a good case for making it happen.

We might be getting ahead of ourselves, though. Before this rematch can take place, Conor McGregor needs to get past an old rival, Dustin Poirier.

Less Than Three Weeks Remain Until UFC 257!

The UFC is making its official 2021 debut on January 16 back on Fight Island, Abu Dhabi! The promotion is slated to host three incredible events on this island. The final one features a main event between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier.

This is likely the biggest fight in both men’s careers. Conor is looking to reclaim the lightweight championship of the world. Dustin Poirier wants to prove that he’s capable of beating the greatest fighters on the planet.

Bovada, a popular US UFC betting site, is offering some amazing odds on this rematch.

For now, Conor McGregor is listed as the -275 favorite. He’s one of the best strikers in UFC history and seems to be in fantastic shape for this bout. A win for the Irishman might set up Khabib vs. McGregor 2 down the line, offering some serious motivation.

Dustin Poirier might never get his due as one of the best fighters on the planet. That could change if he beats Conor McGregor. He’s the +215 underdog to do so. A win might set Dustin up for a lightweight title shot in the second half of 2021.

This is just one of many huge fights taking place on Fight Island this month. It’s without a doubt the most important. We’ll be sure to offer updates on the situation with Conor and Khabib over the next couple of weeks.
